The comeback of the genius loci

In and around the Catalan town of Olot, Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta have created an architectural oeuvre which bears its own unmistakable hallmark. Rooted in the local context, their projects are the result of an intensive dialogue between architecture and landscape and characterized by the spatial continuity between interior and exterior. Highly poetic and sculptural, of unusual expressive power and evocative atmosphere, the buildings of the Pritzker Prize winners 2017 defy the sense of disorientation and placelessness caused by globalization.
