Barcelona Innova Week 2023: Free Guided Tours to Architectural and Urban Spaces That Define the City of the Future

Guiding Architects Barcelona is once again collaborating with Barcelona Innova Week and will offer three architectural itineraries on 17, 18 and 19 November to discover innovative and distinctive projects that act as catalysts for the city and its neighborhoods. With public space and facilities as the main protagonists, these tours aim to invite all citizens to explore and imagine new models of city making and community building.

Centre Cívic Lleialtat Santsenca

Friday 17th November – 4:00 PM
“Social and Environmental Sustainability”, Architectural Route Through the Sants and Les Corts Neighbourhoods

In a context of economic uncertainty and environmental emergency, architectural recycling is a growing trend in our country: instead of constructing from scratch, the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings with sustainability criteria, where the interest of creating community prevails over the business of erecting buildings, is one of the keys to decarbonize the construction sector.

The tour allows you to visit the following buildings:

  • Biblioteca Montserrat Abelló | Ricard Mercadé Aurora Fernandez Arquitectes. 2018
  • La Comunal Espai Cooperatiu | Lacol. 2019 (outside visit only)
  • Centre Cívic Lleialtat Santsenca | Harquitectes. 2017

Biblioteca Gabriel García Márquez

Guided Tour Through the Gabríel García Márquez Library

Recently chosen as the best public library in the world and winner of the FAD Architecture Prize 2023, just a year and a half after its opening this municipal facility located in Sant Martí de Provençals has become a cultural landmark and a social catalyst for both the neighborhood and the city. Designed by SUMA Arquitectura, the building stands out for its unique volumetry that engages in a dialogue with its surroundings, as well as for the innovative and sustainable use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) as its primary structural component.

Parc de la Plaça de les Glòries

Architectural Route Through the Innovation District 22@ Barcelona

An ambitious and pioneering urban renewal project, the 22@ district of Barcelona was born in the year 2000 with the aim of transforming 200 hectares of industrial land into a modern hub of innovation and technology. Today, the area is home to more than 12,000 companies, universities, entrepreneurs, and startups in the digital and technology sectors, sharing space with green areas, affordable housing, and municipal facilities. We will explore part of the 22@ Innovation District and the neighboring Plaça de les Glòries and introduce you to some of its most representative buildings, spaces, and elements, including:

  • Parc de la Plaça de les Glòries
  • Torre Glòries*
  • APROP (Allotjaments de Proximitat Provisionals) Glòries*
  • Museu Can Framis. Fundació Vila Casas*
  • Edifici MediaTIC*
  • Superilla Poble Nou
  • El Panot del Segle XXI

About Barcelona Innova Week

Barcelona Innova Week, formerly known as Smart City Week, is an initiative of the Barcelona City Council organized and coordinated by the municipal foundation BIT Habitat. Its aim is to promote reflection on contemporary urban space and encourage debate on new ways of inhabiting the city. It will celebrate its sixth edition from November 13 to 19, 2023 with more than thirty activities open to everybody that will revolve around three thematic axes: living together, experiencing and imagining.
