Barcelona Innova Week: Free Guided Tours of Innovative and Sustainable Architectural Projects in Urban Regeneration Areas

Guiding Architects Barcelona is partnering with Barcelona Innova Week 2022 offering three free architectural routes through different neighbourhoods of the city on November 19th. The tours aim to give people a closer insight into projects committed to innovation and sustainability and their role in urban reinvention processes.

Ca l’Alier – BIT Habitat

Saturday 19th November – 10:30 AM
“Industrial Heritage and Collective Memory”, architectural route through the Poblenou – Carrer de Pere IV neighbourhood

Barcelona’s Poblenou neighbourhood is undergoing a profound process of modernisation, reinventing parts of its old industrial buildings through innovative and sustainable solutions. The tour includes visits to the following buildings:

  • Ca l’Alier – BIT Habitat, Arderiu & Morató Arquitectes
  • MUHBA Oliva Artés, BAAS Arquitectura
  • Sala Beckett, Flores & Prats

Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours
Language: bilingual Spanish-Catalan

“Social and Environmental Sustainability”, architectural route through the Sants and Les Corts neighbourhoods

In the last decade, the reconversion of existing buildings, that targets participation, collaboration and social engagement at the same time, has experienced a boom in Barcelona. The tour includes visits to three cultural facilities:

  • Espai Comunitari i Veïnal Autogestionat Can Batlló
  • Centre Cívic Lleialtat Santsenca, Harquitectes
  • Biblioteca Montserrat Abelló, Ricard Mercadé Aurora Fernandez Arquitectes

Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours
Language: bilingual Spanish-Catalan

“Towards the Smart City”, architectural route through the Innovation District 22@ Barcelona

A major urban operation, 22@ Barcelona seeks to convert a former industrial area into a cluster of knowledge and technology, where the most innovative companies coexist with subsidized housing, facilities and green areas. The itinerary takes us through the urban landscape of this technological district and the adjacent Plaça de les Glòries, and explores some of its most emblematic buildings and spaces.

Duration: 2.5 to 3 hours
Language: Spanish

Barcelona Innova Week, formerly known as Smart City Week, is a Barcelona City Council initiative organized by the municipal foundation BIT Habitat to promote reflection and experimentation on the relationship between city, society and technology.
